Saturday 16th July 2011, 10.00am - 3:30pm, Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park, Southern Grove E3 Admission: FREE
Calling all nature lovers! Bring your family & friends to Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park's Butterfly and Moth Bonanza on July 16th and join in with a celebration of moths and butterflies. The Friends are offering visitors the opportunity to look at these beautiful and mysterious creatures close up. As well as offering hints and tips on how to identify and distinguish different moth species, The Friends will be on hand to illuminate their fascinating life cycles and habits, and to answer questions.
A Moth Morning (10am-12pm) will look at moths caught in our moth trap during the night. We will identify them, learn about their ecology, then release them unharmed.
A Butterfly walk (1pm - 3.30pm) will, weather permitting, produce around 16 species. They should include Silver-washed Fritillary, Peacock, Brimstone, Browns, Blues, Whites and Skippers. We may spot Hummingbird Hawk-moths too. We will also look at habitats, caterpillar food plants and adult nectar plants.
The event is free but donations are welcome. All are welcome, including accompanied children. People can attend either or both sessions.
For further information please call Ken on 07904 186 981 or email.
