Lunchtime talk on 'Swifts and how to encourage them' by Edward Mayer
Thursday June 5th at the Town Hall – Mulberry Place, E14
There will be a lunchtime talk on 'Swifts and how to encourage them' by Edward Mayer on June 5th starting at noon at the Town Hall. A highly engaging speaker, Edward is the founder of the consultancy London Swifts that encourages people to provide nesting places for swifts - http://www.londons-swifts.org.uk/
With a background in buildings and facilities management, Edward is aware of the challenges faced by buildings and estate managers. Swifts are a threatened species. As Mayer points out Swifts particularly need our help because they tend to nest in roofs, but building regulations say that new roofs have to be sealed. There are a number of cheap and easy options that can be employed to help Swifts that Mayer will explore in his talk, such as the erection of swift nesting boxes which represent a cheap green 'add-on' for developers and housing estate managers.
The talk will be held in the Council Chambers, 1st floor, Mulberry Place on Thursday June 5th starting at 12 noon.
Schedule as follows:
12.30: Talk begins (powerpoint presentation)
1pm: Q&A
1.30-2pm: Walkabout of East India Dock estate to look at various building types to show where Swift nestboxes can be fitted.
Please get in touch by Friday 30th May if you would like to attend by clicking here and leaving your Name and Contact details.
