Free trees!

Two sources of trees for schools and community groups have recently been announced.

The Woodland Trust is once again offering communities, youth groups and schools the chance to apply for packs of free trees for delivery in November 2014.  They have over 4000 packs to give away and they come in three sizes. You can find out more apply online on the Woodland Trust's website. The closing date is 4 September 2014, but it’s usually better to apply sooner because they normally have so many requests that they have to bring the closing date forward.

The Tree Council has announced that its Orchard Windfalls Fund 2014 is open for applications! Through the Fund, grants are available to schools and community groups for the planting of apple and pear trees. To be eligible, planting must take place on publicly accessible land, usually in public or charity ownership. In addition the School or Community Group must be able to raise 25% of planting costs. Children aged sixteen or under must be involved in the planting, which must take place during National Tree Week (29 November - 7 December 2014). The closing date for applications (which must be posted in hard copy, not submitted electronically) is 31 March 2014. For more information and application forms, see the Tree Council website.
