Book your place at our biodiversity conference   

Tower Hamlets Biodiveristy Partnership, led by the Council, is holding a free half-day biodiversity conference to mark the half-way stage in implementing the Local Biodiversity Action Plan.
 
The conference, titled Biodiversity - from balcony to building site and beyond, will be on Wednesday 27 June in the Ecology Pavilion in Mile End Park. It runs from 9.30am to 1pm, followed by lunch and an optional tour of Mile End Park.
 
The conference has a wide variety of talks, and is aimed at both professionals such as planners, developers and social housing providers, and residents with an interest in the borough's wildlife and green spaces.
 
For those involved in design and management of buildings or grounds, there are two presentations which you're sure to find inspiring. Gary Grant will talk about how to design buildings and the spaces around them to minimise water use and provide wildlife habitats at the same time, and Katie Roberts will be telling us how Trees for Cities have been transforming school and housing estate grounds in the borough to make them more attractive and interesting for people and wildlife.
 
For those with a more general interest in the borough's wildlife, Professor David Goode, one of the founding fathers of urban nature conservation, will be giving an overview of East End wildlife, Parks Manager Michael Rowan will tell us what's been happening (and what he'd like to see happening in the future) in Mile End and Victoria Parks, and Theo Thomas will be talking about Thames21's exciting waterway projects and how you can get involved.
