Klaudija Alasauskaite of Trees for Cities writes:

On Saturday 30 March, Trees for Cities ran two big community tree planting events in Tower Hamlets, planting native trees in Langdon Park and an orchard in Victoria Park.

At Langdon Park, on the comTree planting volunteers at Langdon Parkmunity planting day 50 adults and 23 children planted 16 trees. Everyone enjoyed themselves in the lovely weather. In total, Langdon Park has received 39 new trees through this project, with the rest being planted with local schools, corporate volunteers and community groups. Most of these are native trees, including Silver Birch, Wild Service Tree and Wild Cherry, which will enhance the park for wildlife, as well as making it a nicer place for people to visit. The project was kindly funded by Bloomberg.

A few comments from the Langdon Park community planting event:

The best thing about planting trees is…
“Being involved in something the community will enjoy in years to come.”
“Makes you feel happy and meeting lovely new people.”
“Everyone working together and the kids getting stuck in!”

At Victoria Park, we plantedTree planting in Victoria Park 20 fruit trees with 58 adults (including Councillors Val Whitehead, Amina Ali and Rachel Blake – see photo below right) and 41 children. Again, everyone had a fantastic time in the sunshine. In addition to the fruit trees in the orchard, we planted a Nut Tree Trail of ten nut trees adjacent to the Hertford Union Canal with local school children prior to the planting day. The project was kindly funded by Moju.

A few comments from the Victoria Park community planting event:

The best thing about planting trees is…
“It’s so relaxing and enhances one’s relationship with nature”
“The children enjoying themselves outside and feeling proud of planting their tree”
“Exciting and rewarding. It also improved mental wellbeing.”

There are loads more photos from both events on our Facebook page.
